Drug Abuse in the Workplace

Over the course of the past several decades, rates of substance abuse and dependence in the workplace have been on the rise. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence describes the serious implications of substance abuse in the workplace. There are a number of related issues for employers and for the employees themselves, including the inability to hold down a job for any extended period of time, preventable workplace injuries, a loss of productivity and increased healthcare/worker’s compensation costs.

The NCADD describes the following issues:

  • It is estimated that 14.8 million American adults abuse illegal drugs on an annual basis. Of these men and women, over 70 percent are employed.
  • Marijuana is the chemical substance most commonly abused by current employees. Alcohol and cocaine are also frequently misused in the workplace, and rates of prescription drug abuse have been steadily increasing since the mid-1990s.
  • People who tend to bounce around from job to job also have higher rates of substance abuse and dependence. Several studies show that employees who have had three or more jobs within the past five years are about twice as likely to abuse illegal drugs as those who have had two or fewer jobs.

Having an Employee Assistance Program in place is a great way to help avoid drug abuse and addiction in the workplace. If you are currently employed and you are insured through Lower Hudson Valley E.A.P., there is a good chance that some or all of the detox services provided by Pine Tree Recovery Center are covered To learn more, contact us today.

Which of Our Services are Covered?

If you or your loved one is currently covered through Lower Hudson Valley E.A.P., there is a good chance that some or all of the medical detox and addiction treatment services we provide are covered.

These services include:

Around-the-clock medical supervision – Pine Tree Recovery Center’s professional staff is available 24/7
Medication assisted treatment (MAT) – We utilize a number of medications to help ease the pain of withdrawal and make the detox process as safe and comfortable as possible
Crisis intervention services – When a loved one is in crisis, reaching out for help on their behalf may seem like a betrayal, but often it’s the best thing you can do for them. Professional help will get your loved one safely through the immediate crisis and onto the road to recovery in a way that you could never do on your own.
Case management services – A case manager is one of the most valuable assets a person can have in recovery. Pine Tree clients work one-on-one with case managers throughout detox to plan for future phases of treatment. A case manager is an ally and mentor who coordinates their client’s care with the rest of the Pine Tree treatment team, ensuring that the client is receiving the standard of care they need; serves as a point of contact for family members; and helps connect the client with the resources they need to stay involved and engaged in recovery.
In-depth clinical and medical assessments – Before a client enters our program, we conduct a four-part evaluation, which includes a medical, psychosocial, physical and psychological assessment. This initial evaluation allows us to adequately determine the unique needs and clinical requirements of each individual client.
Personalized aftercare planning -Our aftercare planning services, which are an extension of our case management capabilities, continue to support our clients from our facility into the next phase of their recovery. We help with rehab placement, working closely with several reputable, gender-specific rehabs throughout the country.
Individual and group therapy – We believe that therapeutic intervention should begin as early on as medically monitored detox. We offer individual therapy sessions at least once every week that a client is in our inpatient program, and group therapy sessions take place on a daily basis (clients have the option of participating if they feel physically well enough to do so).
Family therapy and additional family-oriented services – The family plays a large role in recovery, and we believe strongly in family involvement. We also offer services geared towards comprehensive familial healing.
