Although your specific benefits may vary, all individual CareFirst health plans provide coverage for the treatment of drug and alcohol dependency as an essential health benefit. In addition, federal law states that coverage for behavioral health benefits can be no more restrictive than limits for medical or surgical benefits. This means that your copayments, coinsurance amounts, and out-of-pocket maximums are the same whether for a medical procedure or drug and alcohol dependency treatment.

We Are Here For You

If yours is an employer-based plan, it may include CareFirst Behavioral Health benefits, which include treatment for substance use disorders, drug, and alcohol addiction.

Will my CareFirst Health Plan Cover the Entirety of my Treatment?

Pine Tree Recovery Center is committed to working closely with CareFirst to ensure that your plan is leveraged to minimize your out-of-pocket expenses. How much of your treatment plan is covered is based on several factors including the state in which your CareFirst Health plan originated, your individual plan’s coverage level, if your plan is an HMO or PPO, and copayment, coinsurance and deductible amounts as outlined in your CareFirst member handbook.

For those with an HMO plan, such as the BlueChoice HMO or Healthy Blue HMO, your benefits are maximized when you visit an in-network provider. Clients with a PPO plan, such as BluePreferred PPO or Healthy Blue PPO, may be able to use their CareFirst benefits with any provider, pending certain pre-authorization requirements or referral from their primary care practitioner (PCP).

All plans are subject to a deductible, the amount you must pay out of pocket before your insurance begins to cover expenses, as well as a copayment, which is the pre-determined amount paid upfront for any one visit, service or benefit.
